I am pleased to share with the world our trialer for “Ouvidor 63”. The story follows an art squat in the center of São Paulo where I lived with over 120 other artists. It was a previously abandoned 13 story office building on a street called “Ouvidor”, where the squat gets its name. Each floor houses a different discipline of art ranging from visual, music, to circus. I was there living with the musicians and documenting the music scene when I met Matias Borgström, the director of the film. He was there wanting to make a documentary about a biannual show the building was putting on and the internal disagreements caused by the entry of Red Bull sponsoring the event.
Shortly after meeting Matias, a 28 story “occupied” building just down the street from us caught fire and burned to the ground. The next day the government showed up at our doorstep trying to turn off the lights. They had waged war on all of the urban squats known as “the occupation movement”, housing over 45,000 families in São Paulo alone. And thus the narrative of the film unfolded in front of our eyes. I helped to produce the film and was there with a camera capturing the day-to-day. I handed off my footage to Mat who, with a team of other talented filmmakers, made the film come into fruition.
